Eprashala Expands Digital Nalanda with 40M+ Knowledge Resources and Book-to-AI Technology

The Indian education technology organisation is connecting global book discovery with conversational AI, multilingual learning and a longer track record in digital classrooms.

Thane, Maharashtra | October 2026

Eprashala, an Indian education technology organisation founded by Dr. Pramod Shinde, has expanded its Digital Nalanda initiative with a searchable catalogue of more than 40 million book records or knowledge resources, alongside an indigenous Book-to-AI creation platform designed to help users ask questions about supported digital content.

The development extends Eprashala’s work beyond its earlier focus on selected ancient Indian texts to a broader knowledge-discovery experience. It also builds on the organisation’s long-running work in digital classrooms and solar-compatible education hardware, which was designed around the infrastructure challenges faced by rural and government schools.

From Digital Nalanda to global knowledge discovery

Digital Nalanda initially highlighted more than 200 ancient Indian texts, including works associated with the Vedas, Upanishads, Ayurveda, philosophy and other knowledge traditions. Eprashala’s expanded library experience allows users to search a much larger range of book records by title, author or subject.

The distinction between a catalogue record and a full digital text is important: complete content is not necessarily available for every title. Where a usable digital source is accessible, AI-assisted summaries, explanations and conversational questions can help readers explore its ideas in greater depth.

Eprashala aims to help readers grasp the central ideas of long books more efficiently through guided summaries and explanations. Its proposed use case includes helping a reader approach a 500-page book in under 20 minutes, depending on the book, the purpose and the depth of understanding required. This is a reading aid, not a substitute for close study of the original material.

Turning digital books into conversational AI resources

A central feature of Eprashala’s ecosystem is its Book-to-AI creation software. It is designed to process supported digital documents, PDFs and images and turn them into book-specific conversational knowledge resources.

The platform uses retrieval-augmented generation, or RAG. In a RAG workflow, relevant passages or information are retrieved from selected source material and used to help formulate an answer. This lets a user ask questions about a particular book or document, rather than relying only on the general knowledge of a model.

Potential uses include helping students revisit difficult chapters, allowing teachers to create interactive resources from lesson notes, and giving researchers a more direct way to explore lengthy reference documents. The time needed to process content varies with its size, quality, format and complexity.

Shareable AI books for teachers and learners

Eprashala also describes a sharing capability for AI-created books. A teacher can prepare a knowledge resource from supported notes or study material and share it with a class. Students can then ask their own questions about the same underlying source, providing a common reference for independent study and classroom discussion.

The platform reports support for conversational interactions in more than 12 Indian languages. This can help learners engage with source material even when they are less confident reading or asking questions exclusively in English. The available language and feature set should be checked on the live platform before publication.

A continuation of Eprashala’s classroom technology

Eprashala’s current AI work follows more than 16 years of work in rural and government-school education. Its earlier technology portfolio included projector-based digital classrooms, interactive learning equipment, energy-efficient devices and solar-compatible systems. The organisation says this experience shaped its focus on practical affordability and access, rather than assuming every classroom has reliable broadband and uninterrupted electricity.

Its wider ecosystem includes Dhwani AI Teacher for curriculum-oriented learning and Bharat.eprashala.com, described as an “Ancient AI Gurukul” for exploring Indian literature through conversational explanations. Other initiatives include Bhasha for language learning, competitive-examination resources, Dr. Pihu and Panini.

Connecting heritage and modern learning

As India works towards Viksit Bharat 2047, the ability to discover and understand knowledge across languages remains an important part of educational access. Eprashala’s approach brings together a global knowledge catalogue, source-based AI interaction and Indian knowledge traditions in a single broader learning vision.
